Where can I find lot codes or expiration dates?
Lot codes can appear on foods in a variety of ways. Most food items have clearly marked Best if Used By dates, but lot codes can be difficult to locate.
- For packaged items, look for black ink-jetted information on the front, back, or sides of the item.
- For fresh bakery items like bread or buns, check the bread clip that holds the plastic closed.
- Meal or salad kits may have individual lot codes printed on the individual components.
If you are having trouble locating the lot code or Best if Used By date, call 888-301-0332 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Sunday. Please have the item number from your receipt, the product UPC, and/or the product description ready to provide.
How do I know Member's Mark food is safe?
We partner with our suppliers to ensure that all Member’s Mark food items are produced at facilities that are certified against a GFSI-recognized audit scheme. GFSI stands for the Global Food Safety Initiative, an industry-driven global collaboration to advance food safety while building trust throughout the supply chain.

Where can I find allergen information?
The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 requires food manufacturers to label products that contain a major food allergen in the ingredients statement or with the word “contains” followed by the food source. If you have reviewed the product label and want more information about allergens in a particular food item, call 888-301-0332 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Sunday. Is food safe after the “Best if Used By” date?
Best if Used By dates are generally about quality, not food safety. For the best experience, consume the product before the Best if Used By date. If you have questions about whether the food is safe to consume, call 888-301-0332 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Sunday. Please have the item number from your receipt, the product UPC, and/or the product description ready to provide to our Member Advocates.
Can I freeze Member's Mark food?
With the exception of canned foods or eggs in shells, you can freeze almost any food. However, once the food is thawed, you may not be pleased with the quality. Some foods like mayonnaise, cream sauce, and lettuce do not maintain quality after freezing. Raw meat and poultry maintain quality longer than cooked counterparts because moisture is lost during cooking. Vegetables generally freeze well if they are blanched before freezing and storage.
For more information, visit www.fda.gov/food. If you have questions about a particular product, call 888-301-0332 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Sunday. Please have the item number from your receipt, the product UPC, and/or the product description ready to provide to our Member Care Professional.
